This policy explains what personal information Rubics Code (ABN 40 440 756 434) collects, why we collect it, how we store it, and who we share it with. It covers this website, our email correspondence, and the Loggerhead app and its licence purchases. We follow the Australian Privacy Principles in the Privacy Act 1988 (Cth).

1. What we collect and why

The contact form

When you send us a problem through the form on this site, we collect:

We use the first two groups to understand your request and reply to you. We use the third group to filter abuse and to debug delivery problems. Each submission also gets a random request identifier so we can find it again if you reply.

Email

When you email us, we keep the email and our reply for as long as we need them to handle your request and to keep a record of the work we do together.

Our occasional notes

If you subscribe to our notes on AI for small business, we store your email address to send them. Every note has an unsubscribe link. We do not add you to that list because you sent us an inquiry.

The Loggerhead app

Loggerhead runs on your Mac and keeps your logs, metrics, and traces on your Mac. We do not receive that data. The app does not send usage analytics to us. Three actions do reach a server:

Server logs

Our hosting provider records each request to this site, including the IP address, the requested page, and the user agent, for security and to keep the site running. Those logs are kept for a short period.

Cookies and analytics

This site sets no cookies and runs no analytics or advertising scripts. The light or dark theme you choose is stored in your browser's local storage and never leaves your browser.

2. Who we share it with

We share personal information only with the providers that run the service, and only as much as each needs:

Provider What they do Where
Cloudflare Hosts this site and delivers our outgoing email, including the inquiry emails. United States, with servers worldwide
Resend Sends the confirmation email after you submit the contact form. United States
Stripe and Link Process Loggerhead purchases as the merchant of record, issue receipts, and handle refunds. United States, with a local entity for Australia
Keygen Issues licence keys and records activations. United States
GitHub Hosts the Loggerhead downloads, the source code, and the issue tracker. United States

These providers are outside Australia. We choose providers with their own privacy commitments, and we send them only what the task needs. We do not sell personal information, and we do not share it for advertising. We disclose personal information to other parties only when the law requires it.

3. How long we keep it

4. Security

Every connection to this site uses HTTPS. Access to our email, our hosting, and our payment accounts is protected with two-factor authentication. Secrets and keys are kept in a secrets manager, not in code. If a data breach is likely to cause you serious harm, we will tell you and the Office of the Australian Information Commissioner as the Privacy Act requires.

5. Your rights

You can ask us what personal information we hold about you, ask us to correct it, or ask us to delete it. Email greg@rubicscode.com and we will reply within 30 days. If you are not satisfied with our answer, you can complain to the Office of the Australian Information Commissioner.

6. Changes

When we change this policy, we update the date at the top of this page. A change that affects how we use information you already gave us will be announced by email where we have your address.
